Hello, friends! It is cold in Uruguay. We are trying to deal with the COVIT-19 and to take cover at a time. Some days, the wind is so strong, that makes you feel like a piece of paper circling up in the sky and making the wind chill temperature even lower. Here, the situation is under control and the citizens feel confident in the way the president is making decisions. The city is still quiet, the street musicians are not taken their places in squares and boulevards, there are no birds singing, just pigeons. You can see few children or grannies walking on the streets and the parks are empty for security reasons. But people are going to work, the stores are open and also some restaurants. Churches are doing mass with a restricted protocol and timetable. Most of the people are using masks and sanitizers in their hands; nowadays you can find sanitizer everywhere, but it is good to have your own. All is different, is an entanglement, we need to be patient, better times will come.
I mostly stay at home doing my handcrafts and playing with my little daughter Ana. I'm taking the time to finish the last baby blanket of this season. I have to recognize it has been more challenging than others. I always try to get fresh ideas to combine the yarns and design new patterns; it is not easy considering the yarns are donated. When you have a project, you know exactly the materials you have to buy and, of course, you are sure about the end. But this does not happen when you have to work with leftover donated yarn. One of the problems I had to overcome is the difference in the thickness of the yarns, also different textures. I started to work with the thickest, but in the end I found I had a lot of thin yarns of different colors. I didn\t know what to do because children need to have thick blankets for winter. One day, I was watching knitting videos on YouTube and noticed that a woman double the yarn, she worked with two hanks to make them thicker. Eureka!
In the beginning, I wasn't sure about mixing two different colors to make one strand, but I tried. The results surprised me and now they are my favorites. What do you think?
